My Journey to Singapore - Finally I'm settled down!

It has been like 2 months since my last update on Shinise. I'm surprised to receive drastic reading rate for this post, thank you all!
And, yes, that's my last blog post before moving to Singapore for my second stage of Nutritionist life. 
Soooo sorry for not being able to update my blog, was totally tight with settling down in a new country.
Received quite a number of inquiries from friends asking how did I end up with getting a job in Singapore and the procedures involved. 
Working abroad is never an easy task, especially things like working permit is kinda tedious process for some of us. 
So now, I'm going to share how did I manage to work in Singapore and little about the establishment.
1. Search for a job
Prior searching for job, you must update your resume!!!XD
There are several ways to search for a job:
a. Job portal/websites:

b. Social Media

c. Recruitment agency
You may find some agencies throught the website search though, just send them an email will do.
Or, if you have friend who is working in a recruitment agency, just contact them.

d. Direct inquiry
Do a quick search on the internet to find out companies in your field. 
Send their HR your resume with cover letter.
**You could actually search through Linkedin and get to see employment history of professionals within the same field. You may be able to identify a few companies through this method and send them an job vacancy inquiry.

e. Ask around
Be open minded and take your courage to ask around your friends and ex-colleagues.
Who knows their companies are looking for candidates too?
Never ask, never know.

2. Work out your pass
During the interview session, it's important to understand the types of permit sponsored by the company.
Generally, there is 3 types of pass for foreigners to work in Singapore. 
**Regardless of the types of pass, CPF is not mandatory for foreigners. 
a. Employment Pass (E Pass)
For professionals, managers and executives executives with Degree qualifications, and being offered at least SGD 3300.

b. Skill Pass (S Pass)
For mid-skilled staff with the offer of at least SGD2200.

c. Work Permit
For semi-skilled foreign workers to work in Singapore without minimum qualification of salary. 

I will only cover EP for the following flow:
Application of EP
Upon successful interview, company needs a few documents from you to process with the EP application, together with completed EP application form:
i. Identification Documents
ii. Travel document/Passport
iii. Photo
iv. Graduation certificate(s)
v. Academic Transcript
vi. Programme accreditation by an accrediting body in the country of award

vii. Certification / Licensure examination results (where applicable)
viii. Registration / Practising Certificate / Certificate of Good Standing with a Statutory Authority (where applicable)

Check on application status
Generally, it takes about 5-10 working days. However, it may be prolonged if you're a first timer.
After the application is submitted, you could check the status here.

EP-IPA Issuance & Medical Check Up
Upon approval, a IPA letter will be sent to you via company. The IPA grants you a permission to enter Singapore for your medical check up prior to employment. 
In most cases, the medical check up is borne by company in selected panel clinics. 
For better outcome, clarification is always advisable. 
Only physical examination, HIV test and Chest X Ray are compulsory, no fasting needed. 

White Card (Disembarkation/Embarkation for Visitors)
You need not fill in the duration of stay, but you need to inform the immigration officer you're coming to work and show them your IPA.
Don't lose he WHITE CARD! 
It's one of the compulsory document needed for you to register your EP card later. 

3. Room rental
There's a few websites that you could refer to:

General things that you need to be aware for room rental:
a. At least 6 months minimum stay and 1 month notice 
b. 1 month rental fee + 1 month deposits
c. Agent fee may apply
d. Laundry twice per week is common
e. Utility cost, wifi, air cond: are they inclusive? and find out if there's any cap.
f. need to pay for e stamping upon signing rental agreement

Other than that, you may want to consider:
a. transportation availability to work
b. availability of groceries shopping
c. availability of food and bank

4. Telecommunication
Three main telco in Singapore are:
c. M1

Their offer are pretty similar in price range, from $20/month for postpaid Sim Only Plan. 
I'm so used to postpaid, cause I need data!!! XD
I chose Singtel due to their attractive promotion on data plan, buy one free one!

If you hold EP-IPA, you need to place deposit of $200 which is claimable after you have obtain EP card. 
5. Transportation
Singapore has always being famous of its convenience of public transport, just like other developed countries. 
Similar to Taiwan, they have EZlink card that meant to pay for public transportation and some convenient stores.
And, look! That's so adorable!
Hmmm, I'm referring to the card XD!

This melted my heart and got me for excitement quite a long while.
So sweet~~
It cost $12 with $5 credits in the card. 
You may want to watch out when you credit fall below $3, you'll not be able to tap your card.
Oh ya, it has an expiry date, roughly about 5 years time. 

You could get it at any MRT station EZ Link card selling counter, Usually it's located just in the middle of the MRT station entrance.
Right after you arrival at Changi Airport, there's one before you enter the Changi MRT Station.
You can reload through the ticketing machines ($0 processing fee), 7-11 ($0.50 processing fee) and ATM machines.

Oh ya, there's a few apps that you could use for checking the local public transport details (routes, fare, schedule and arrival time).
The one that I'm using is My Transport SG. 

6. Registration of EP card 

After clearing your medical check up, company usually helps to submit to Singapore Ministry of Manpower by filling up the information online.
The next step is then to make an appointment for EP registration through their official website
You just need to fill in your preferred name and book your preferred day and time. 

The Employment Pass Services Center located at The Riverwalk, 20 Upper Circular Road, #04-01/02, Singapore 058416 (Within Walking distance of 5 minutes from Clarke Quay Station), operating from Mon-Fri only.
On your appointment day, bring along the following documents:
1. Notification Letter 
2. EP-IPA Letter
3. Passport and other original travel documents
4. Original and completed Declaration Form
5. Original Full medical Examination Form
6. Original Disembarkation/Embarkation Card (White Card)

Upon your arrival, just go the Kiosk and scan the bar code on your Notification Letter, then you'll get your queue number! Cool!
Advise to make early appointment as it takes about 10 minutes to complete the whole procedures.

Oh ya, prepare yourself for a phooto shooting on the spot, just like how your passport photo is taken.
Yeah! Now, you just have to wait for the EP card to be delivered to your office!

7. Open bank account
The last thing you have to do before you could completely settled down - to create a bank account for your salary.
Prior to that, check with your company which bank they are using for GIRO salary payment.
OCBC bank actually offers a better interest rate compare to other banks. 
If you happen only advised to create bank account at POSB/DBS (only Multiplier Account is offered to foreigner), there's a fall below fee of $5 every month if you fail to maintain daily account balance of $3000 during that particular month, except the first month.
In order to create your account, remember to prepare the following documents:
1. EP Card
2. Documents that could proof your address in Singapore (Rental Agreement/ Telco Bill).
3. Identification document/IC
4. Passport (just in case)
